DILGO SURF PRODUCT REVIEW

We made the best 100% all-natural skin care products for ourselves, but now for you too! After looking at all the petroleum and water-based ointments and lotions that were around our houses, something had to be done, so we did it. 

Pertoleum products (including mineral oil) are derived from fossil fuels. Water-based lotions require chemical preservatives! Yuck! Check the ingredients on your lotions, then check ours. We use 100% natural butters, oils and wax in our formulas. 

Dings happen! In your gear box or bag, you should always be prepared for a ding. Water and a dinged up board can lead to a variety of problems all of which will ruin your board. Ding tapes look like clear packaging tape, but they are not. There is quite a few on the market and Dilgo Surf likes Phix Doctor's ding tape. Phix Doctor makes packs with a variety of sizes. You can't make a small one bigger, so Dilgo Surf carries the large SUP size which can be cut into smaller patches.

Some companies make dig tape in a roll, but we don't recommend it. The tape stretches as you unroll a piece and you have to handle like packaging tape getting oils from your fingers on it, then when you apply it it won't stick as well and then it may return to its original shape.

Ding tape should only be used on cracks and should be properly repaired when you reach land if necessary. Some DIlgos have tape on some boards for years! 

Big cracks and gauges should be patched with a resin repair kit. 

Dilgo Surf is currently making our own small batch, 100% all natural wax, but we weren't the first. Matunas is known as the best 100% natural mass produced and we got it too! 

The rules for waxing your board are relatively simple; cool board, warm wax. If you are at the beach and your board is hot from the sun, all you're going to do is scrape off the wax that is already on your board. Shade your board (we have a solution coming soon) or bring it into the water to cool and let your wax warm up before applying. 

Safety first. Beginners and intermediate surfers should always wear a leash. If your advanced, you may need to wear one soon as legislation is floating around somewhere to make it mandatory. Leashes come in a variety of colors and thicknesses in the cords and cuffs. There are so many manufacturers of leashes and most are the same. Spend the money on a better leash. Better leashes will have multiple pivot points to help prevent entanglement. If you want the best - XM Surf More has what you want and we got them!

The Dilgo Surf leash of choice is XM's tangle free leash. The concept is they have a rubber coated grommet on the cord which slides around. The idea is the weight of the grommet sinks the leash in the water so it is less likely to tangle. If you have ever gotten tangled up, you know what we mean. If the tangle free leash cuts that number down, you just got more waves.

Dilgo Surf will carry the comp leash (thinner and lighter) and regular cord version.

Keeping your center fin in place is crucial. There are some fins that just pop into your fin box, but based on testimonials from local shapers, they can fall out. Stick to the tried and true fin screws. 

There are currently 3 types that are available; flat head, hex and thumb screws. The flat head screws are horrible to screw in and out.  The hex heads are good, but you need to have a fin key handy. If you choose either of these 2 options, make sure not to overtighten the screw or you can crack your fin box.

The 3rd option is the best - the thumb screw. The thumb screw only requires your fingers to tighten. They have a rubber grommet to help hold your screw in and prevent overtightening.
